Encouraging Words

Monday thoughts - The topic for this week is Encouraging Words. As we discussed on Friday, it is important that we get outside ourselves once in awhile and focus on others. My devotion/quiet time these past few weeks always seemed to point me toward prayer. God seemed to be telling me that I need to be praying for others; praying for the difficult situations some of my friends are dealing with.

Practicing this behavior also causes me to create a mental gratitude list. Not one that says, wow, I am so glad I am not dealing with the things my neighbor is, but an attitude that is thankful to God for all he has done for me. My prayer might look something like this:
  1. God thank you for teaching me that I have choices; that I can chose to eat healthy or not and that you will still love me.
  2. Father, teach me to reach out to someone else, someone who needs you in their life. Someone who needs to feel your love and acceptance and most of all your HOPE.
  3. Send your Holy Spirit to me today and fill me with a desire to encourage someone today.
So, who came to your mind just now? Who do you know that could use a card from you, or a phone call? While this posting today isn't about my food stronghold it about getting over myself and reaching out to someone. God blesses these endeavors in ways I would never expect.

Scripture encouragement for today is from Psalm 94:19 (NIV) "When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul."

Judy
