Enjoy the Journey

Take a Break - When I am preparing for a long trip, I break it up into small pieces, mapping out the trip; dividing it into doable doses. Just plowing on down the road, passing by all of the designated rest areas on the highway doesn't do me any good at all. By the time I arrive at my destination I am so tired that I crash. Often, I am no good to anyone the next day as I am grumpy and irritable.

I have learned that enjoying the journey is what God intended for me. No matter where I am heading, no matter how difficult the road is that I will be traveling, it is important that I take pleasure in the landscape, soak up the view. Roadside rest areas are made just for that purpose. They are often built around the most scenic overlooks where we can see nature or history for ourselves.

I can just hear you now. What does this have to do with my struggle with eating, my food stronghold? Let me share with you how important it is to enjoy the view - to take in the moment and savor it. Just because I need to curb my habitual tendency to overeat or binge does not mean that I am doomed to a life of celery and carrot sticks.

As I learn travel down this road on my way to overcoming my issues with food I recognize that God wants this trip to be a good one. He wants to share the journey with me and He wants me to go slowly enough so that I don't miss any of the blessings He has in store for me.

Scripture encouragement for today is from Psalm 139:1-3 "O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar; you discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways."

Grace 'n Grins,
Judy
