H is for Hope

The list of words beginning with 'H' is quite a long one, and I could have written about each of them. I chose Hope because it is something I must cling to everyday. Hope is a constant for me in secular terms as well as Christian. Hope is a word I use in general conversation about my eating habits. "I hope I can stay focused on my menu selection today."

This little word is so much bigger than maintaining my menu. It is how I need to live each day - grabbing all the hope around me. For me, hope is faith. Like the song says, "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' love and righteousness."

I attended a Christian 12-step program last night and the topic of Step 7. We humbly asked God to remove all our shortcomings. The emphasis was on ALL. Not just some, but all. For me that suggests I need to acknowledge my overeating as a shortcoming, a character defect. The fact that God cares about my shortcoming enough to work with me to remove it tell me there is such hope in Jesus.

The Scripture from my devotional time today is found in 1 Chronicles 16:8-12.

Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.   Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.

I would love to hear your "H" word.  Email here or comment below.

Grace 'n Grins,
Judy
