U is for Understand

Each day as we move through life there are things we learn about ourselves.  I call them a-ha moments.  These moments are filled with understanding.  These moments are gifts from God as we search for the meaning of life. We all have seasons when we need to feel there is purpose and a plan that is greater than us.

It is during these seasons I tend to seek meaning in food; I use food as a barometer. When I don't understand what is going on, don't understand my feelings or someone else's feelings, food is there to help me figure things out.  I do find it strange that just any food won't do the trick.  For instance, carrots don't give clarify, grapes aren't the best gauge, artichokes won't comfort my spirit.  The only substance that seems to fill those needs is sugar.

During the season I am personally in right now I go from not wanting to eat to eating my way through the evening.  My life has changed dramatically and I now find I have more time on my hands than ever before.  I find that I am bored and therefore I eat.  I need to keep busy, but busy with production projects.  There must be a purpose to each of our lives.  I find purpose in writing devotionals like Daily Bible Blast and of course this blog as well.

When I can stay close to Jesus with study and reading and prayer; and then stay close to his people in friendship, I know there is purpose and meaning for my life.  When my life is filled with these good things I am not as likely to abuse food.  How about you?  Is there anything you can share with us?  Feel free to comment below or email me here.

Grace 'n Grins,
Judy
