Tools for staying on track

Accountability Partner - We all need friends, and who better to help us through a rough patch of dieting than a partner. Pair up with someone you respect and someone who cares for you. It might be even more helpful if you find someone to make this trip with you, someone who also struggles with food issues.

Always remember to laugh a little: I heard someone say, "Inside me there's a thin person struggling to get out, but I can usually sedate her with four or five cupcakes.

Plan your day: What is your menu for success? Keep a diary or journal to record for thoughts and actions and your menu for today.

Food for thought (pardon the pun): Author Frank Tyger observed, "In every triumph, there is a lot of try."

  1. Hi Judy! Now that I am at home most days, it puts a lot of temptation in front of me. I am keeping busy with projects which seems to be the secret for me. It's been icy outside this morning so I don't have the opportunity to get away. This is really a test of my determination. So far I'm doing ok. How are you doing?

  2. Hi Judy! Good for you for starting a blog! I will definitely follow along and keep checking in.

The new Weight Watchers' food journals have a hunger graph for each day. Using it has been very helpful to me over the last few weeks. It has stopped me enough to ask, "Am I REALLY hungry? (as I look at the list of foods I just ate). If not, what AM I?"

Also - here's a question I'd love your opinion on: How does having A New Year's Resolution sync up with One-Day-At-A-Time thinking? I think about this at WW too. They always want you to set goals, but I have trouble keeping my focus on today while thinking about 12 weeks from now. What's your take?

  3. Hey Amy, Great to hear from you. I agree the new Weight Watchers' momentum plan along with the differences in the food journal are helpful.

As far a resolutions are concerned, I consider one day at a time a daily resolution. Those are the only kind that work for me. But, I did resolve to try more and not to quit if I feel that I have blown it! There is no such thing in my vocabulary any more. While I have an idea of what 12 weeks from now will look like, I keep myself in the moment, concentrating on today.

  4. Hello!
What a great idea! I am blessed with two accountability partners - my friend Sue and my friend Kathy. Sue is local and Kathy is in another state. I get to speak to Sue daily in person and email Kathy - usually early in the morning or late at night. I'm covered with support and am so grateful!

My resolution in 2009 is to take care of myself. It's vague but I do not want to overwhelm myself with a list that I won't complete. For this week, my goal is to simply write down everything I eat and walk. Not count, not worry - just write and walk. So far, so good.

Can't wait to tune in tomorrow! :-)

  5. I haven't figured out how to put the two together yet - since I find if I take my focus off today even for a moment I get off track. I suppose a resolution or a goal could be like deciding what direction I'm going to go - and then go back to focusing on going that direction one day at a time.

Today was a good one and I am thankful to God for it. I will go to sleep tonight praying for one day again - and He is faithful!

  6. Good Morning, Judy!
Last night our couples group was cancelled at our house. I had made my favorite lemon dessert. Okay, so I ate after 7, one of my resolutions I was not going to do, but I did eat a reasonable portion, another resolution. I was also aware of what I was doing. For the first time in a long time I was focused. Today I am giving away most of it. Also today is another day, another start. Thanks for listening!
