Aspects of Food Strongholds

Mental - This week we will examine different ways we struggle with food. Today I would like to look at the manner in which our own thinking gets us into trouble; how we can talk ourselves into a corner. Here are some ways I do this:
  1. Rationalization - When I want something that is not part of my menu for the day I will rationalize my way to a logical reason that I have earned the extra portion.
  2. Recreation - In my mind I conjure up all sorts of reasons that I deserve to have a little enjoyment with that apple pie.
  3. Relaxation - I worked so hard today, I am tense and I need to relax a little. That often means that I will go through a fast food drive through.
  4. Remuneration - I am recognizing that one reason I struggle with a food stronghold is because I use food as a reward instead of a ration.
I know that my mental attitude is important when making wise choices. When I begin and end each day calling on God for strength he answers me. When I feel tempted, a quick prayer for help will get me through the moment.

Scripture Encouragement for today is from Psalms 17:8 (NIV) "Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings."

Grins and Grace,
Judy
