D is for Decide

D is for Decide

As I thought about the "D" word for today a number of them came to mind; all of which would be fun to write about. I chose decide because I can most relate to this word - I have only been up for 4-1/2 hours but already I have had to make many decisions choosing from a list like this.

1. What to eat for breakfast

2. Do I really want to spend the next 1/2 hour doing a daily devotion?

3. Get outside and walk the 3 miles I have mentally committed to walk

4. Drink my first 16 ounces of water for the day

5. Sit down and write another devotion

We make many decisions, all day long. We decide to change our attitude, our behavior, we can decide to smile, pray, laugh, cry, help, teach...the list goes on. What a privilege it is have choices, allowing us to make our own decisions.

When we look around us and see a world teetering on disaster, countries shouting hate cries and families dissolving into memories, it is appropriate to give thanks for a God who forgives over and over again. Every day we can decide to move forward, to trust Jesus to guide and protect us.

Joshua 24:15 (MSG)

"If you decide that it's a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you'd rather serve—and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you're now living. As for me and my family, we'll worship God."

Just for fun: Deleterious (del-i-TEER-ee-us), Harmful or injurious, to give a sense of formality to the assessment of harm.

It is detrimental to our faith journey when we allow idols to slip into our routine. We are free to choose which God/god we will serve. Choose to give up the idols placed conveniently nearby and pray for strength to resist the temptation to graze pointlessly and instead, feed on God the Bread of Life.

Grace 'n Grins,

Judy
