There is so much to
enjoy in life, and when we direct our thoughts to those things, each day can be
filled with enjoyment and effervescence. The manner in which we approach
each day, and each challenge that day brings, has much to do with how we feel.
Feelings aren't facts,
but they are real. By the same token, they are controllable. We
don't have to wallow in guilt; we can simply choose to make
better decisions the next time around. And the next time around
isn't tomorrow, or next Monday, but right now.
Think about a time when
you made a poor food choice, when portion control was not your first
thought. Now focus on your feelings at
the time. If you can’t reconstruct the scenario, get out your journal and wait for the next time you don’t follow
through with healthy eating. Record the scene and refer to it often. You know
for a fact you will not have to wait long.
Once I have identified
the trigger, I can face the feelings that overtook my good and sensible plans.
I struggle with loneliness and boredom.
I have allowed these two feelings to dictate my next move. God is gently revealing to me that loneliness
and boredom are self-inflicted wounds. I
have lots of friends…why do I claim this as an excuse to eat whatever I want,
whenever I want with the intention of filling that hole?
Can you give an example
from your life? Is there a truth buried
that you are not listening to? Reflect
on these words from Isaiah 41:10.
“Don't panic. I'm with you. There's no
need to fear for I'm your God. I'll give you strength. I'll help you. I'll hold
you steady, keep a firm grip on you.”
