The weekend causes some of us to stumble and give up our intentions
to eat healthy. Our resolve weakens as we are surrounded by family and
friends on these weekly breaks. Our routine is different and we find we
need to be more flexible and spontaneous. It is, after all, the weekend.
This is why it is so important for us to settle on an eating plan we can
live with. A plan we can adapt to our lifestyle, a plan we can change up;
one which allows us to enjoy the journey.
For instance, I plan to take in a movie today. I also plan to have some popcorn, (what is a movie without popcorn?), and because I am following the Weight Watchers program I can do this without taking on the usual guilt which accompanies the movie theater popcorn treat. So, I ask, is your program flexible enough to allow for a movie date? Make it so. (I am also a Star Trek junkie)
I need to remind myself that this journey isn't so much about the pounds I am going to lose as the energy I am going to gain. It isn't about the foods I can't have as the new tastes I am going to cultivate. It isn't about exercising my body to build stronger muscles as much it is about the new lease on life I am discovering as I breathe in the fresh air found while walking outdoor nature trails.
My words above have somewhat simplified the realities of our journey, but I must bite off only what I can chew. If I view the road before me as long, winding and peppered with stop signs and potholes, I will turn back before I ever truly glimpse the view ahead. Instilling a positive outlook, looking only at the upside, will give me the stamina I need to keep on track.
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, Open wide your mouth and I will fill it." (Psalm 81:10) Oh, did I mention that I pray a lot on this journey? Prayer keeps me on the right road and helps me dodge the potholes we mentioned earlier.
Grace 'n Grins,
Judy
