I had a list of "O" words, but opportunity was the first one I thought of and decided to run with it. Each day is an opportunity; a chance to begin again, to move forward. This blog site began as a place to meet for dieting encouragement and it soon morphed into a site where we can discover what God is saying to us. It is my prayer that the words I write, He can use. It is my prayer you can see and feel Him moving in your life.
I am afraid of the scale. Anyone with my on this? I will walk to the other side of the room just so I don't have to face the scale. The scale measures my defeat; the scale shouts out my failures; the scale is not my friend. The scale is an inanimate object, so how could it be a friend? Many weight watching programs tells us not to become obsessed with a scale, but to only weigh in once a week.
I need to rely more on friends, on my accountability partner for encouragement. I want to take every opportunity I have to turn to God for the strength and direction I need to make wise choices. I am discovering that life is a series of choices and opportunities. In this one area of my life the food choices I make determine success at the scale. More important than this is the opportunity I take advantage of to get myself closer to God. He is the one who schedules our seasons of opportunity.
Scripture encouragement for today is found in Galatians chapter 6. The entire chapter is worth the read, but the verse I am using to encourage us to find a partner to walk this road with is verse 2. "Carry each others burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

Old Habits
Change that lasts - If you are like me, you have lost weight often. You have looked into the mirror and enjoyed the new you. During these seasons in your life you felt better that you had for years. Then suddenly you realize that the pounds have crept back on and you wonder what happened? I can testify to this personally. My dieting life has been a story of ups and downs.
As I get older (don't you hate to hear this phrase?), it gets more and more difficult to loose weight. I am learning though that it is not because my body is changing as much as it is that I am changing. I am becoming more rigid, my habits more strongly ingrained and my heart just is not into the dieting game.
I find that I have to work on my heart, discovering what God wants of me, searching my soul to see why I am not allowing God to fill whatever need it is that keeps driving me to food for happiness. I am discovering a lot about myself and more importantly, I am discovering more about God and how faithful He is when I turn to Him.
Scripture encouragement for today is from Jeremiah 24:7 "I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart."
