Beginning Again

Friends,
It has been awhile since I have posted to this site on a regular basis.  It is now time to begin again.  As I struggle in new ways with my food choices I know there are others who are in the same situation.  Food is way too important to me.  Food takes up too much of my thought life.  I rely more than I should on the satisfaction gained from eating.

I will be posting Monday through Friday to this site, sharing my thoughts, prayers, discoveries and ideas on this topic.  I hope I have not been gone too long for you to find me again.  God is showing me my areas of weakness, and I plan to come clean with you and perhaps face this head-on.  Want to join me on this journey?  I would love to hear from you during this next season of Write Eating.

The ABC's posted over a year ago seemed to be very popular.  That will be a great way to begin again, right where I left off.  I am revamping these entries and polishing my prose.  Monday, watch for "A" for ATTITUDE.  Let's discover together how important our attitude is to our eating habits. Til Monday...

Old Habits

Change that lasts - If you are like me, you have lost weight often. You have looked into the mirror and enjoyed the new you. During these seasons in your life you felt better that you had for years. Then suddenly you realize that the pounds have crept back on and you wonder what happened? I can testify to this personally. My dieting life has been a story of ups and downs.

As I get older (don't you hate to hear this phrase?), it gets more and more difficult to loose weight. I am learning though that it is not because my body is changing as much as it is that I am changing. I am becoming more rigid, my habits more strongly ingrained and my heart just is not into the dieting game.

I find that I have to work on my heart, discovering what God wants of me, searching my soul to see why I am not allowing God to fill whatever need it is that keeps driving me to food for happiness. I am discovering a lot about myself and more importantly, I am discovering more about God and how faithful He is when I turn to Him.

Scripture encouragement for today is from Jeremiah 24:7 "I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart."

Self talk

Mind Games - How many of us play games with our eating plans? I know that I can justify that extra serving or that small brownie very easily. In my head (always a dangerous place to go), I will calculate sound reasoning why I need it and deserve it , and then I will consume it. Instead of writing down everything I eat, I will conveniently brush off the extra ounce of steak, or that 1/2 cookie I grabbed on the run and then wonder why I did not loose a pound this week. This happened to me just this past week. I went to the scales convinced that I would have a 2 or 3 pound loss. Guess what, I stayed the same. I was in shock or more honestly, denial.

Later that day I began to examine the past week. It was then that I discovered all the little things that I ate and did not count or journal. I found that one item I ate I did not use the correct measure for. I am my own worst enemy. This week I am working on being totally honest with myself. I am working on awareness of this self talk that I listen to, awareness of reality, those extra calories I am taking in DO make a difference. I am also going to turn to God for help. I cannot do this on my own. I know this, I say this to others, now I am going to practice what I preach.

Scripture encouragement for today comes from Psalm 37:5 (TLB) "Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him to help you do it and He will."

New Year's Resolutions

I can't begin to count how many New Year's Resolutions lists had "lose weight" as the number one goal. Every year I would start again and every year within a month I would give up. Let's use this site to help each other out. Let's share helpful hints and information and use this space as an online support group.

This week's topic is New Year's Resolutions. Have you been successful with a weight loss resolution? Tell us about it. If not, tell us about that too.
