Old Habits

Change that lasts - If you are like me, you have lost weight often. You have looked into the mirror and enjoyed the new you. During these seasons in your life you felt better that you had for years. Then suddenly you realize that the pounds have crept back on and you wonder what happened? I can testify to this personally. My dieting life has been a story of ups and downs.

As I get older (don't you hate to hear this phrase?), it gets more and more difficult to loose weight. I am learning though that it is not because my body is changing as much as it is that I am changing. I am becoming more rigid, my habits more strongly ingrained and my heart just is not into the dieting game.

I find that I have to work on my heart, discovering what God wants of me, searching my soul to see why I am not allowing God to fill whatever need it is that keeps driving me to food for happiness. I am discovering a lot about myself and more importantly, I am discovering more about God and how faithful He is when I turn to Him.

Scripture encouragement for today is from Jeremiah 24:7 "I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart."

We are valued

Just as you are - Do you ever think, "If I could only loose 20 pounds life would be perfect?" Do you ever dream about looking like one of those models on the magazine covers? I know, we hear all the time how those photos are touched up, how no one is perfect and those pictures are far from real, but that does not change my wishes.

I really believed that if I could loose weight, life would greatly improve. Of course, I also believed that if every one around me would get their act together and behave in the manner that I thought appropriate, my life would be perfect too. Are you starting to get the picture?

Life will never be perfect - not in this world anyway! The good news is that we can improve and so can our life. Last week we talked about how it is not about the food. Our happiness, peace of mind and our joy in life comes from a heart that is open for business.

During the years when I was so miserable because of my food issues and because of every one else's behavior I really needed heart surgery. My heart was closed. I did not feel worthy to be loved, therefore I wasn't. My mixed up thinking made my life miserable. Knowing that God loves me just the way I am is clearing up my wrong thinking. I am trusting in God's care and provision.

Scripture encouragement for today is from Jeremiah 17:9-10 " The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve."

It Is NOT About the Food

What is it all about? - This week let's talk about what goes on when we rely on our food stronghold to survive. I discovered recently that my love/hate relationship with food is rooted in my heart! Wow, what an eye opener that has been. I have known for a long time that there is something going on with me, that I can loose weight; I can get myself to the point where I am looking and feeling much better; but I don't stay there. You too?

For the longest time I thought that this is just the way life was meant to be for me. I decide to loose weight, I find a diet that works for me and then I do it! But, it never lasts and that never surprises me when it doesn't. Now, isn't that something to admit? Can you relate to this?

This week I will share with you my journey of discovery into my issues with food and how I am starting to see where God is leading me. Please feel free to comment and to share your struggles too.

Scripture encouragement for today is from Psalm 147:3 "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
