Identifying Triggers

Recognize trouble - There are certain things I know I should never buy at the grocery, like real ice-cream or a truly great bakery bread. So then, why do I buy those things? Oh, I am getting it for my husband, my roommate, my sister...you know the drill.

I know that I am my own worst enemy when it comes to planning and executing my grocery list. I write down all the good things to purchase:
  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Low fat yogurt
  • High fiber cereals
While I do purchase these items, I also put forbidden items in my shopping cart. I am realizing that this is all OK. Why, because God doesn't make junk! All these items, when used sensibly and in moderation, are fine. The work I need to do is practice restraint throughout the day, turn to God for wisdom in my meal selection. As a member of Weight Watchers (this is the program that works for me) I know that I can eat anything. I just have to plan for it.

God is part of that plan. I must begin my day surrendering my desires to Him. I also find that praying before each meal brings God to the table, right where I need Him to be.

Scripture Encouragement today comes from 2 Samuel 22:3: "My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge."

Grins and Grace,
Judy

  1. Prayer before meals seems to be such a cliche. A habit from childhood, or a habit out of duty, but prayer before meals as you suggest is such a great idea! If I pray for His presence and am aware of Him being by my side during that meal, I can only imagine that it will be much easier to only eat what I need.
    Thanks Judy!
